Ad Placement Guidelines
All games published on Y8 must follow these advertising guidelines. Ads should not interrupt gameplay, cause accidental clicks, or negatively affect the player experience.
This page explains where and when ads may appear. For SDK integration, callbacks, and technical details, see the Y8 SDK advertising documentation.
Interstitial Ads
Interstitial ads should appear only during natural gameplay breaks and must never interrupt active gameplay.
Single-Player Games
For single-player games, interstitial ads must be triggered by a player clicking a button, such as Play, Next, Retry, or Continue.
Automatic interstitial ads without a button click are not allowed, even when a player dies, completes a level, or finishes a race.
This helps prevent accidental ad clicks, especially in games where players frequently click or tap during gameplay.
Multiplayer Games
For real-time multiplayer games, we allow automatic interstitial ad requests during natural gameplay breaks without requiring a button click. However, developers must add a short delay before showing the ad to prevent accidental clicks.
Allowed examples:
- After player death, before respawning or switching to spectator mode.
- Between rounds or matches.
- After a player is eliminated from a match.
- After finishing a multiplayer race.
- During map changes or when returning to the lobby after a match.
Not allowed:
- During active gameplay, such as shooting, driving, running, or fighting.
- While a player is still actively participating in a match.
- During normal gameplay actions, such as reloading, switching weapons, or entering a safe zone.
- Suddenly showing an ad while the player is actively clicking or tapping.
Automatic ads must not interrupt other players or unfairly affect the multiplayer experience. If no ad is available or a request is frequency-capped, gameplay must continue normally. Players must not be required to watch an interstitial to respawn, spectate, or continue.
Rewarded Ads
Rewarded ads allow players to voluntarily watch advertisements in exchange for optional in-game rewards, such as extra coins, bonuses, additional lives, or other benefits.
Requirements:
- Rewarded ads must always be optional and started by the player's choice.
- Players must be able to play and complete the game without watching rewarded ads.
- Do not spam players with frequent rewarded ad offers or popups.
- Do not lock most of the game's content behind rewarded ads. For example, blocking 50% of game content behind rewarded ads is not acceptable.
- Do not force players to watch rewarded ads to unlock essential levels, missions, characters, or features required to complete the game.
- Do not intentionally make the game unnecessarily difficult, slow, or frustrating to encourage players to watch rewarded ads.
- Rewards must be clearly explained before the player chooses to watch an ad.
- Rewards should only be granted after successful ad completion, as confirmed by the Y8 SDK.
- Players who decline a rewarded ad must be able to continue playing normally.
Rewarded ads should provide additional benefits, not become the main way to progress through a game.
In-Game Banner Ads
In-game banner ads are advertisements displayed within the game interface. They are mainly intended for games with long, continuous gameplay sessions and limited opportunities to show interstitial ads, such as io and multiplayer games.
In-game banner ads require approval from Y8 before they can appear in a live game. Contact Y8 support to request approval.
Requirements:
- In-game banners are generally intended for io and multiplayer games. Other games may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Developers can use test banners during development; test banners do not mean live banners have been approved.
- Banner ads must not cover important gameplay elements, buttons, menus, or other essential content.
- Banners must not interfere with gameplay or block the player's view.
- Do not place banners too close to gameplay controls where players might accidentally click them.
- Do not repeatedly show and hide banners in ways that could cause accidental clicks.
- Do not use excessive banner ads that negatively affect the gameplay experience.
- Use only banner sizes and formats supported by the Y8 SDK.
Y8 may reject or disable banner ads if they negatively affect gameplay or cause accidental clicks.
General Advertising Rules
These rules apply to all games published on Y8.
- Show ads only through the Y8 SDK: no third-party ad networks or SDKs, and no ads of your own.
- No unexpected fullscreen ads during active gameplay. Interstitial and rewarded video ads must not unexpectedly interrupt gameplay.
- Prevent accidental clicks. Ads must not suddenly appear where players are clicking or tapping.
- Pause gameplay and mute audio during fullscreen ads. Follow the Y8 SDK's ad lifecycle callbacks. In multiplayer games, avoid interrupting other players.
- Respect frequency limits. The Y8 SDK enforces frequency capping; do not attempt to work around it.
- Do not force rewarded advertisements. Players must not be required to watch rewarded ads to complete a game.
- Do not abuse advertising. Excessive, misleading, or disruptive advertising is not allowed.
- Follow Y8's advertising requirements. Games that violate these guidelines may be rejected, returned for changes, or have advertising disabled.
